Meet Sid´s Seed, a 3 piece outfit hailing from Barcelona.
Recently I´ve been putting my ear to work on their latest release "The Beauty of Imperfection",
an independently released EP and produced by Claudio Baruzzi of StoneBox Studios. What makes this EP so interesting is that the creative minds
behind the music have actually been able to produce a fresh take of different styles of rock,
such as indie, punk and garage together on a grunge based formula, and what makes it unique
is how all of those styles stumble across each other without destroying the harmony and the infectious
melodic elements of the songs. Another element that calls your eardrum is that Sids Seed is able to tastefully
incorporate one of the most particular musical devices in rock: reverb effects on clean vocals; which is not an easy task,
given the fact that similar bands will try to jump on that "tool" to get the "grunge" label attached to them...
but thats certainly not the case in here, the interleaving of Dani's reverbed vocals and Chino's punk screams are
clearly a well handled out enterprise that says a lot about the band's value. On the other side we have the instrumental
work; a really dynamic guitar work that changes styles faster than you can blink, a jumpy-scored bass work that brings
an intense groove to the equation and the feeling-based drum lines made in a way that the band pulls off some really cool
abrupt tempo shifts, yet still maintaining the songs sense o cohesiveness. Sids Seed parts from the unlikely starting point
of "grunge-land", a place where the dress code is relaxed and the group's singer looks like an average crowd member; which
makes it eye-confusing given the amount of power that the songs bring within at times, alongside with the band's
energy-charged live performance. On an overall opinion; "the beauty of imperfection" might seem a little counterintuitive
at first listen, but the decision of recording the EP the way they did, after a deeper listen, its easy to realize that it
paid off well!. With this EP the band takes a trust leap towards a potentially successful future and into a genre that is
yet to explore in ways that are being heard on the recording.
